Daring To Compete

New Flyer Industries

New Flyer Industries is North America’s largest manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses in the US and Canada. With its head office located in Winnipeg, this facility employs 1200 people within a 340,000 sq ft. plant. The company’s other two facilities are located in Crookston and St. Cloud both in Minnesota and do business with major US markets including the cities of Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Seattle and Portland.

Started in 1930, New Flyer is one of Manitoba’s real success stories. According to Paul Soubry, President and CEO, “we have invested in the creation of organic technology, as well as collaborated with partners to add and embody technology for the North American market space. We have been the first in North America to introduce low-floor technology giving easy access on and off the bus especially for disabled passengers, and we were the first to introduce articulating buses for the transportation of larger quantities of people in a cost effective manner.”

Soubry says “our competitive edge is really about resilience...the company has grown and adapted its market share...competing with major companies in Canada and the US. Our employees have a great work ethic and have pride in the product; they want to grow, develop and better their careers and obviously deliver great products to their customers.”

New Flyer continues to focus on innovative technology, excellence in production and exceeding the expectations of their clients. The company was also selected as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2009 for the second consecutive year by the editors of Top 100 Employers in Canada.
