“Made in Canada” Revised Enforcement Guidelines

June 30, 2010

This year, Canada Day marks the coming into force of the Competition Bureau’s revised enforcement guidelines for “Made in Canada” and “Product of Canada” labelling claims for non-food products. While the guidelines come into effect this Thursday, the Competition bureau has indicated that over the next six months, it will consider enforcing the new guidelines only in circumstances of bad faith and will otherwise send warning letters.

Bill C-36 – Canada Consumer Product Safety Act

June 10, 2010

A new Bill was introduced on June 9, 2010 in the House of Commons, the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, Bill C-36 or CCPSA (formerly Bill C-6 which died in parliament earlier this year) giving the government powers to issue product recalls and require companies to report safety-related incidents and conduct product testing.  Currently, products recalls are voluntary in Canada.
