Discovery Program Overview

Dare To Discover

The Discovery program was established to create interest and enthusiasm in Science, Engineering and Technology careers in Manufacturing and focus students on the essential skills that workers need for work, learning and life.

Students and teachers will be introduced to the manufacturing industry sectors, learn of manufacturing careers, required education and training and employment opportunities. High school participants will experience (hands on), the rigors of manufacturing by designing, building and assembling a hovercraft to strict specifications. All the time working in teams, negotiating, communicating and supporting each other.

With nearly one hundred and fifty-six thousand skilled employees who will be progressively retiring over the next several years and the steady decline in student enrollment in technology areas, the Discovery Program will encourage manufacturing careers as viable options for Manitoba youth.

CME will be recruiting industry representatives to partner with high schools as their sponsors. Sponsors may provide support with mentorship, access to technology and equipment, scholarships or even cash to support teams.

The Discovery Program is supported by the Centre of Excellence Initiative and sponsors; CME, U of M Faculty of Engineering, Red River College and Winnipeg Technical College.
